The Role

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our team at Mansell Recruitment Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing new products incorporating analogue and digital electronics, taking them from concept to manufacturing release, and will take a leading role in working with suppliers and mentoring junior colleagues.

As part of our New Product Development (NPD) teams, you will design and develop electrical/electronic solutions, meeting project timescales and liaising with Sales, Marketing, and OEM customers to define user interface needs and document them in technical requirements.

You will design both analogue and digital electronic systems, identifying suitable design solutions and taking responsibility for their interface and operation. This will include firmware and user interface software development across a range of products, defect analysis, debugging, and problem-solving, as well as configuration management and version control, and programming a wide range of communication protocols.

Integration and testing of electronics and software with mechanical hardware will be a key part of the role, including the preparation of test specifications for use in Development and Production. You will also be responsible for designing to meet safety and legal requirements, including RoHS, Low Voltage Directive, and EMC Directive, and arranging independent test and certification where necessary.

The Candidate

We are looking for a candidate with a record of new product development in a similar manufacturing environment, who can provide examples of products designed and launched to market. Experience in mentoring and training junior engineers is also essential, as is practical experience in developing analogue and digital electronics, including PCB design using Altium and SolidWorks. Programming experience using embedded C, C++, or QML is also required, with Linux being an advantage. The ability to analyse field failure trends and manage obsolescence is also important, as is the ability to cope with rapidly changing demands on time and prioritise jobs according to urgency. A logical and methodical approach to work, with a deep understanding of processes and process boundaries between departments, is also essential.
