Job Title: Principal Contracts Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Contracts Specialist to join our team in Harlow/Glenrothes. As a key member of our commercial team, you will provide contractual and commercial governance and advice to our bid and project teams, supporting the winning and subsequent delivery of profitable business.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide full contractual and commercial support to development, approval, and issuance of bids and proposals.
  2. Identify and mitigate commercial risks, providing input to the overall risk plan.
  3. Lead in the negotiation of contracts, ensuring effective risk management and commercial outcomes.
  4. Manage new and existing contracts, including contract change control and support to other functions.
  5. Resolve commercial issues promptly and effectively, ensuring timely claim submission.
  6. Manage the financial aspects of contracts, including forecasting and milestone plans.
  7. Be the commercial face of the organisation to customers, providing subject matter expertise and day-to-day contact.
  8. Drive change and improvement initiatives, championing commercial excellence.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  1. Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience in reviewing and drafting contractual documents.
  3. Strong commercial awareness, business principles, and governing law.
  4. Experience of commercial risk management.
  5. Ability to respond to tasks with tenacity and flexibility, working cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary team.
  6. Strong communicator and relationship builder with internal and external customers.
  7. Ability to remain calm under pressure and collaborate with others.
  8. Positive, self-motivated, and able to work independently when required.
  9. Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.

Desirable:

  1. Previous experience of contracting in the Defence sector.
  2. Accreditation in Commercial and Supply Chain management.
  3. Obtain Security Clearance (SC).
  4. Basic programme management skill set - Risk Management/Programme Gating/ Metrics.
  5. Strong record of problem-solving and dispute resolution.
  6. Experience of working with international suppliers or customers.
  7. Experience of Financial Management.
  8. Awareness of Data Protection and other relevant commercial and contract legislation.
  9. Familiarity with business process management tools (IPDS, SAP or similar) and the competitive bidding process.
