The Role

We are seeking an experienced Glasshouse Operations Manager to join our team at our new 26-acre glasshouse in Carrington, Lincolnshire. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our circular farming system and contribute to the advancement of high-tech, sustainable farming in the UK.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the glasshouse, including managing the P&L account, setting and delivering the yearly budget, and ensuring a safe working environment for all staff. They will also be responsible for labour management, site maintenance, and service contracts, as well as maintaining a close relationship with the technical team to ensure our produce is safe, traceable, and compliant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the glasshouse, including labour planning and staff training.
  • Oversee the P&L account and set and deliver the yearly budget.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all staff by adhering to company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Manage site maintenance and service contracts.
  • Maintain a close relationship with the technical team to ensure our produce is safe, traceable, and compliant.
  • Recruit and manage labour, including planning and liaising with labour providers.
  • Line manage the management team, supervisors, and glasshouse workers.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technology and manage short and long-term work and the labour planner.
  • Manage the site labour and productivity tracking system and produce accurate reports.
  • Set long-term forecasting of production and review sale prices for crops in conjunction with the Commercial team.
  • Manage existing and develop new external relationships with suppliers.
Person Specification
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an operations management role supplying UK supermarkets.
  • Experience in a glasshouse environment is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and various systems.
  • Good analytical and data management skills.
  • Professional manner and effective communication skills.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to work.
  • Willing to take responsibility and ownership for tasks.
  • Ability to work under own initiative but also as part of a multifunctional team.
