Acute Oncology Specialist

About the Role
The Acute Oncology Nurse Specialist will play a key role in the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) team for the delivery of a comprehensive acute oncology service within the Trust. In line with the NICE guidelines for acute oncology services and the standards for acute oncology, the post holder will provide early input into:
Key Responsibilities
- Faster and better care of patients with complications of chemotherapy, including Neutropenic sepsis (early recognition, better treatment, early discharge).
- Faster and better care of patients with complications of cancer (early recognition, better treatment, rapid referral back to specialist oncology team, palliative care team etc.).
- Care and support of patients receiving chemotherapy that have an allergic reaction to the chemotherapy or patients who suffer and extraversion.
- Education, training and support to peers and colleagues in relation to AOS issues.
- Data collection to demonstrate activity and performance.
- Actively seek to improve AOS.
Person Specification
Essential
- NMC Registered Nurse
- Degree Qualification in Nursing /Health related subject, undertaking a degree or willingness to undertake
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
- UKONS SACT passport or equivalent
Desirable
- Advanced Communication Skills Training
- Psychological Support Level 2 Training
- Oncology qualification/Experience or equivalent
- Evidence of Leadership development/qualification
- Mentorship qualification, ENB 998 or equivalent
- Research Qualification
- Masters level or prepared to work towards
