Medical Oncology Specialist

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Oncology Specialist to join our team. As a Consultant Oncologist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality Oncological care to patients within the trust.
Main ResponsibilitiesAs a Consultant Oncologist, your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing clinical leadership in a management role as Gynaecology and Breast Oncology Lead.
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings reviewing all relevant histology and radiology.
- Providing clinical leadership in the management of patients with gynaecological and breast tumours.
- Actively participating in the consultant-led ward service for the overall care of oncological in-patients and the AOS for in-patients and out-patients.
- Contributing to ongoing research projects using the clinical and/or laboratory facilities available.
In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will also be expected to:
- Teach and train junior staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
- Act as a clinical/educational supervisor to locally employed doctors and doctors in training programmes of a variety of grades and experience.
- Participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
The appointed consultant would be expected to contribute to the on-going service improvement programme, developing initiatives such as:
- Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT)
- Cost Improvement programme (CIP)
- Implementing evidence-based new ways of working when necessary
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn is located in a beautiful area of the UK, offering a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics, and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people. We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care.
Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will have:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP Part 1 and Part 2
- Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council
Desirable criteria include:
- Postgraduate thesis awarded or pending
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at time of interview
Essential criteria include:
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Medical Oncology
- Wide experience of prescribing chemotherapy including E-prescribing
- Experience of Acute Oncology
- Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist generic capabilities framework
