Job Summary

The Cabinet Office is seeking a Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance with data protection legislation when processing personal data. As the responsible body for paying compensation to eligible applicants affected by the infected blood scandal, the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) will be handling sensitive information, including medical records and health data. The Data Protection Officer will provide assurance to senior leaders and guide operational staff on data protection compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Report to the Head of Data Governance and sit within the Data Directorate.
  2. Lead on providing input and assurance on data protection impact assessments, data sharing, lawful bases for processing, and data subject rights.
  3. Develop and implement data protection policies and procedures.
  4. Design and deliver training to operational staff on data protection.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of data protection legislation and its application in practice.
  • Leadership skills to champion data protection compliance and develop the direct report.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and operational staff.
  • Strategic thinking to anticipate and mitigate risks.
