Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychology graduate to join our team as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at an Ofsted good secondary school in York.

About the Role
  • This is a full-time position starting in September 2024, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance and school requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Classroom Assistance: Assist teachers in delivering lessons, provide one-to-one support to students, and facilitate group activities to enhance learning outcomes and engagement.
  2. SEN Support: Collaborate with the SENCO to support students with special educational needs, including designing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and providing tailored interventions to meet their learning needs.
  3. Behaviour Management: Implement behaviour management strategies and techniques to promote positive behaviour and create a conducive learning environment for all students.
  4. Mentoring and Counselling: Provide mentorship, guidance, and emotional support to students, helping them develop resilience, coping skills, and strategies to manage stress and anxiety.
  5. Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyse data on student progress, behaviour, and attendance, and provide feedback to teachers and senior leaders to inform intervention strategies and support plans.
  6. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external agencies to develop and implement effective support plans and interventions for students with additional needs.
Requirements
  • A degree in Psychology or a related field is essential for this role, along with a genuine interest in working with young people and supporting their educational and emotional development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience, with a compassionate and supportive approach to working with students facing challenges or barriers to learning.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively, balancing multiple responsibilities and priorities in a dynamic school environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to learn and develop new skills, take initiative, and contribute positively to the school community.
