Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Electrical Design Engineer at the National Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our Remote Engineering Design & Robotics Team, you will play a critical role in the design and development of bespoke remote handling equipment, tooling, inspection systems, and robotic systems for the nuclear industry.

Main Responsibilities
  • Design and develop 2D detailed design drawings and schematics using AutoCAD 2D CAD design package.
  • Perform detailed technical and design calculations.
  • Collaborate with the build, installation, commissioning, and operational support of plant-based equipment and inactive development test rigs.
  • Develop prototype equipment and processes through to supply of end products.
  • Prepare product safety-related documentation, risk assessments, method statements, operation & maintenance manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and company policy standards and procedures, including those required for CE marking.
  • Provide technical direction to technician and craft personnel.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers, initiate, and progress the procurement process, including production of procurement specifications through to delivery and inspection.
  • Produce technical reports.
  • Design, install, and commission inactive test rig electrical building services.
  • Survey and document plant-based equipment and systems, including electrical building services.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on issues relevant to their working area.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in their field and apply them to designated work packages.
  • Travel to other sites to attend project and customer meetings.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering or a closely related subject, and relevant experience.
  • Experience with 2D CAD design packages, preferably AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge and experience of applying legislative and regulatory requirements relating to engineering product development projects and CE/UKCA marking.
  • A working knowledge of relevant safety legislation and quality and environmental standards.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplined team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving, questioning attitude, and solution-seeking skills.
  • Proactive approach to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
