Job Overview

As a Directorate Lead Nurse, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Portering and Waste services team carries out their duties in accordance with departmental and Trust policies. This includes supervision of teams, management of annual leave and sickness, and communication with all users of the services to ensure the service specifications are being delivered to agreed standards.

Main Duties of the Job

Maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff, and other health service business in accordance with Trust Policy.

Provide effective communication and support to the operation of the department.

Aid Hospital staff, visitors, and patients when faced with difficult situations caused by third parties, following Trust policies and procedures.

Communicate sensitive issues when dealing with the deceased family using tact and respect.

Guide and direct visitors and deal with telephone calls in a helpful and friendly manner.

Investigate and resolve complaints speedily and effectively, keeping a positive image of the department.

Provide advice and support to the portering team.

Communicate daily with all users.

Understand and adhere to procedures for dealing with complaints.

Attend daily briefing meetings with the Assistant Waste and Portering Manager, and liaise with other Supervisors.

Respond to emergency Bleeps for fire, medical emergency, major obstetric haemorrhage, deploying staff appropriately.

Plan and schedule rosters and annual leave within the team to ensure the service is well covered at all times.

Ability to transfer patients across site.

Ability to transfer waste from source to point of storage.

Assess manual handling and risk prior to movement.
