About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Healthcare Coding Specialist to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing medical information from patients' records and other electronic systems and to clinical/medically code in accordance with NHS England's classifications and national standards.

You will have a good understanding of classification systems, particularly WHO ICD and OPCS interventions, as well as human anatomy and physiology, medical diagnosis, and how patients are treated.

As a key member of our coding team, you will work on own initiative within standard departmental procedures and manage day-to-day workloads, referring more complex issues to more senior colleagues.

Your main duties will include assigning codes from the International Classification of Diseases (ICD10), Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS4) and SNOMED applying National and International rules to agreed standards, inputting coded data onto the Patient Administration System (PAS) for all Inpatient, Day Case and Waiting List episodes.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Mathematics and English;
  • NVQ Level 3;
  • Computer literacy and experience of applying this in the work environment;
  • General administrative office experience;
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail;
  • Good verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet strict deadlines;
  • Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook.

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
