About the Role

This is a highly varied position with the scope to make a considerable impact on the wellbeing of our staff at NHS Blood and Transplant. Working with all levels of the organisation, you will deliver evidence-led health, safety and wellbeing (HS&W) advice. Helping staff to understand how they can balance their patient safety and service delivery priorities with legal compliance and their own HS&W, you will become a trusted partner to their work.

Main Responsibilities

  • Providing a professional Health, Safety and Wellbeing service to managers and staff, including planning with directorates, facilitating consultation, and providing accurate and timely advice.
  • Assessing training needs and delivering training to up to 15 people.
  • Encouraging effective working between Occupational Health, Human Resources, and Managers.
  • Engaging and influencing senior managers, HS&W performance reporting.
  • Working with Directorates on HS&W improvement initiatives over a large geographical area supported by HS&W Advisors.
  • Providing additional support for specialist areas as required by Head of Health and Safety Policy and Planning, including Risk, Assurance, and Improvement.
  • Traveling and spending time away from base, when required, with prior notice.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience as a Health and Safety Advisor providing advice, training, auditing, policy formation, facilitating consultation, and planning.
  • Experience of working for a multi-site organisation.
  • Experience of accident investigation, inspections, and audit.
  • Experience of working closely with occupational health to find practical and effective workplace solutions.
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Qualifications and Training

  • Post graduate qualification to master's level (this could include a NEBOSH Diploma) in occupational health and safety or equivalent relevant qualification OR equivalent experience.
  • Possession of Chartered Safety Practitioner with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health or working towards.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
