James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical services for a population of approximately 230,000 living in South East Norfolk and North East Suffolk. Job SummaryWe are inviting applications for a Clinical Fellow position (at ST1/ST2 Level) to support the Foundation Year 1 trainee and provide support to the on-call urology cover during the day. The appointee will be supported and supervised by two senior Specialty Doctors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the urology ward, assisting in theatre sessions, and arranging admissions and discharges under Consultant supervision. A ward round will be conducted each morning, which is mainly elective patients, as emergency urology patients are admitted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
Main DutiesThe appointee will undertake the routine and emergency care of urology patients (assessment of urology referrals, both on the wards and in the Emergency Department prior to transfer to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital) under consultant supervision. The post will give plenty of opportunities to learn urological procedures.
There is exposure to theatres and endoscopy sessions on a regular basis where hands-on training will be given. It is ideally suited to anybody who would like to pursue a career in urology.
The appointee will also be expected to participate in audit work. A proactive role should be taken in departmental audits and must participate in the ongoing teaching activities of the flexible attitude to adjusting to changes within the department will be necessary.
Person SpecificationQualifications:
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- Applicants must meet the requirements set out in the Foundation Programme 2010 Eligibility Criteria
- IELTS etc level overall
- ALS
Experience:
- Evidence of achievement of foundation year 1 competencies
- Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection. Understands principles of clinical governance in clinical practice
- Applicants must be familiar with and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the major principles of the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2006)
- The applicant must demonstrate an understanding of the outcomes to be achieved in the Foundation Programme as set out in The New Doctor (2007)
- Knowledge & understanding of UK Hospital systems & practices and value: awareness of current issues in the NHS.
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
