Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Ophthalmology Department at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the Outpatient department, Waveney suite, and injection suite, as well as the Beccles AMD service.

Main Responsibilities

As Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will be accountable for the maintenance of standards and professional practice as set by the NMC Code of Professional Standards of practice and behaviour and relevant professional guidelines.

You will be responsible for carrying out the following duties:

  • Carrying overall responsibility for the organisation and management of the Ophthalmology Department, including the supervision of students.
  • Providing a clear focus for clinical leadership and ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care.
  • Being accountable for coordinating patient care, the management of resources, and the performance of staff.
  • Using a range of techniques to ensure set and monitor standards of clinical practice, audit, research, and teaching to set, monitor, and continually improve standards of care and patient experience.
  • Ensuring safe and effective clinical practice.
  • Enhancing patient experience.
  • Leading, managing, and developing team performance, promoting professionalism and trust.
  • Ensuring the promotion and implementation of flexible and family-friendly working in accordance with trust policies.
  • Ensuring effective delivery of organisational objectives.
  • Ensuring efficient and effective use of resources, managing a devolved budget.
  • Ensuring effective succession planning at all Bands.
  • Actively promoting the Trust's visions, values, and divisional objectives.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • First-level registration with the NMC.
  • Mentorship/teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Experience in the management of outpatients.
  • A minimum of 12 months' experience in Ophthalmology.
  • Up-to-date clinical knowledge.
  • Awareness of patient care.
  • Awareness of current nursing developments appropriate to the area.
  • Possession of a current Professional portfolio.
