Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Affairs Manager to join our team at the Betting and Gaming Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our public policy strategy and parliamentary engagement plan, working closely with the Director of Public Affairs to shape and deliver our policy objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Public Policy and Government Relations
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive public policy strategy to advance the interests of the Betting and Gaming Council
    • Lead and draft responses to government consultations and parliamentary inquiries
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, parliamentarians, and industry partners
    • Analyse and interpret government policy and legislation, identifying opportunities and challenges for the Betting and Gaming Council
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communications
    • Develop and implement a stakeholder engagement strategy to build support for the Betting and Gaming Council's policy objectives
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including government officials, parliamentarians, and industry partners
    • Produce clear and concise reports and updates on key policy issues and developments
  • Team Management and Collaboration
    • Lead and manage a team of public affairs professionals to deliver our public policy strategy and parliamentary engagement plan
    • Collaborate with other teams within the Betting and Gaming Council to advance our policy objectives

Person Specification

  • Strong understanding and experience in the development and execution of public policy, with key relationships inside government
  • Experience of leading, creating and delivering a public affairs strategy
  • Good track record of working effectively with stakeholders to deliver results
  • Strong and confident influencing, negotiation, and networking skills, with ability to operate in a dynamic and agile environment
  • Outstanding communications skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to translate complex policy matters into simple messages and key actions
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities
  • Comfortable dealing with complex issues and to quickly hit the ground running
  • Self-motivated, well-organised, pragmatic and able to perform tasks independently
  • Continuous drive and energy to get things done
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high quality output
  • Excellent time management skills, to ensure work is managed appropriately and completed to tight deadlines
  • Positive, proactive and engaging team player, with a willingness to go the extra mile to deliver objectives
