The Principal Examiner is responsible for overseeing the standardization of examiners and ensuring that the standards of an externally assessed unit are maintained and consistent with the unit specification and assessment criteria. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the specification for GCSE Economics.

Key responsibilities of the Principal Examiner include:

  • Leading meetings such as pre-standardization and standardization
  • Selecting and marking items for validity
  • Marking an allocation of live candidates' responses
  • Preparing and collating materials for standardization
  • Supporting supervisors and examiners

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in economics and experience in quality assurance and assessment practice. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
