About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Commercial Lawyer to join our team at the University of Cambridge. As a key member of our commercial, corporate and IP team, you will provide expert legal advice on a wide range of commercial matters, including export control, data protection, procurement, intellectual property and national security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide internal clients with accessible, clear, pragmatic and robust advice on commercial matters
  • Supervise more junior members of staff and provide guidance and support as needed
  • Act as Copyright Officer for the University, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Work independently and manage substantial matters without supervision
  • Supervise other legal professionals and deliver training and designing legal resources, guidance and templates for a diverse, non-legal audience
  • Advise and influence senior stakeholders with confidence and gravitas
About You

We are looking for someone who is a team player, excited to make an impact and share their ideas with a new and growing team. You should be ambitious and keen to learn new things, with a desire to develop and grow as a lawyer. You will work effectively under pressure, exercising autonomy, judgement and initiative, and display meticulous attention to detail and demonstrate an aptitude for rapid learning.

Requirements
  • Significant experience in private practice or in-house, particularly within a large, complex organisation
  • Providing legal advice on a broad range of commercial matters, including drafting, reviewing, advising on and negotiating non-standard agreements and resolving commercial disputes
  • Identifying, assessing and managing legal risks, taking into account matters ancillary to one's area of expertise
  • Advising on international matters and collaborations, working independently and managing substantial matters without supervision
  • Supervising other legal professionals and delivering training and designing legal resources, guidance and templates for a diverse, non-legal audience
  • Advising and influencing senior stakeholders with confidence and gravitas
