Role Overview

The Graduate Teaching Assistant SEN role at GSL Education involves providing support to students with special educational needs in a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. This position requires a recent graduate with a degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field, and previous experience working with children or young people is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers to create tailored learning plans that address the specific needs of each student with special educational needs.
  • Offer individual and small group interventions to help students improve their learning outcomes.
  • Use evidence-based strategies to support students in developing their academic and social skills.
  • Encourage positive interactions and model appropriate behaviour.
  • Work alongside classroom teachers to implement learning strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain detailed records of student's progress and any interventions used. Provide regular updates to teachers, parents and other relevant parties to ensure a coordinated approach to each student's development.
  • Ensure that students receive comprehensive support by collaborating with counsellors, social workers and other professionals to address the broader needs of students and their families.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A recent graduate with a degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with special educational needs, is highly desirable.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for education and a commitment to supporting the development and well-being of students with SEN.
  • Understanding of various Special Education Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD etc.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
