About the Role

This challenging and rewarding position requires a compassionate, knowledgeable, and motivated individual who is passionate about offender healthcare. As a Lead Prison Health Specialist Pharmacist, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical pharmacy services, leading a team of healthcare professionals, and developing new services aligned with NICE guidelines.

You will work closely with patients to support them with medicine queries and concerns, undertake medication review clinics, and implement improvements to patient medicines for long-term conditions. Your expertise will also be sought by the healthcare team to ensure practice is compliant with CQC standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Leadership: Provide leadership to the healthcare team, ensuring compliance with CQC standards and developing new services that align with NICE guidelines.
  • Medicine Optimisation: Work with patients to identify risks associated with high-risk medicines, develop strategies to minimize these risks, and provide scheduled clinics for offenders across the prison(s).
  • Formulary Management: Develop and enforce the prison formulary in liaison with other OPS colleagues and ensure it is updated onto SystmOne locally when changes are made.
  • Training and Education: Provide education and training to the primary healthcare team on therapeutics and medicines optimisation, as well as supporting the Specialist Prison Service Pharmacist in providing education and training to the pharmacy team members.
