About The Role

Community Link Worker

Location: High Street, Ramsey, Huntingdon

Contract type: Fixed term for years

Hours: per week

Salary: £, per annum based on hours per week

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use is essential (business mileage will be reimbursed).

You will work on an exciting project between the British Red Cross and Ramsey Foodbank, supported by the Trussell Trust. The aim of the project is to test if an outreach approach, working in partnership with foodbank volunteers and local agencies can positively impact people accessing the food banks and their immediate families, by addressing unmet social needs. The hope is to reduce food poverty and reliance on foodbank support.

What does a day in the life of a Community Link Worker involve?

You'll work in the community to help identify and address unmet social needs. This may include supporting people with more complex presentations including refugees or people with dependency issues, mental health problems, long-term conditions and potentially adverse traumatic experiences. The people you will work with are often suspicious of formality and offers of support. Your compassionate, authentic nature will help them access the help they need. You'll help to lower stigma within the community and change mindsets and behaviours by building strong relationships with a variety of partners and stakeholders.

What do you need to be a successful Community Link Worker?
  • Exceptionally strong ability to connect with people – you'll be authentic, relatable and compassionate
  • Sound knowledge of how the system works and how to help people falling through the gaps.
  • Experience in person centred support planning and dynamic risk assessment, particularly with people whose needs are complex.
  • Strength, resilience and courage, with a real appetite to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
  • An ability to think on your feet, with strong negotiation skills.
  • Meticulous record keeping.
What benefits will you get?
  • Holidays: days annual leave (including bank holidays) + option to buy extra days.
  • Pension scheme: Up to % contributory pension.
  • Flexible working: We do our best to accommodate your preferred work style.
  • Learning & Development: Wide range of career opportunities + comprehensive learning.
  • Discounts: Access to Blue Light Discount Card and employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Assistance: Access to mental health and wellbeing assistance.
  • Team Working: Champion our mission in a collaborative team.
  • CycleWork: Lease a bicycle through the scheme.
  • Season ticket loan: Interest-free loan for commuting expenses.

We are proud to participate in the disability confident scheme for roles based in the UK. During the application process, you will be asked if you wish to apply under the scheme.

At The British Red Cross, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce, and ensuring we have an inclusive environment for all our staff and volunteers. We remain dedicated to ensuring our teams can bring their true selves to work without risk or fear of discrimination. We do this through regular data reporting, and the assistance of our internal Race and Equality Network (REEN), LGBT+ Network, our Disability and Wellness Network (DAWN), Gender Network, Carers Network and Youth Network.
