About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Principal Pavements and Road Maintenance Advisor. This is a key role that will play a critical part in ensuring the quality of our pavement construction and maintenance activities.

As a Principal Pavements and Road Maintenance Advisor, you will be responsible for leading quality assurance standards for pavement maintenance and operations, driving quality standards in pavement construction, and ensuring that our construction activities meet compliance with industry standards.

You will work closely with our Maintenance and Operations Group to monitor the quality of construction activities in the field and ensure that these activities are linked to quality assurance documentation and requirements.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about raising the bar and building capability across the industry. You will be working in a regional role, requiring strong relationship skills to ensure willing compliance with industry standards.

You will be on the road frequently, evaluating critical phases of construction to ensure that critical construction standards meet compliance while identifying and reporting on any deviation from the design.

Your focus will be to reduce the impact of poor quality of works for Aotearoa, through every interaction and the way you work with others to lift team capability and improve reporting and records management.

About You

You are a passionate and experienced professional with a strong understanding of pavement design and construction, maintenance and operations, and quality assurance. You have a proven track record of delivering high-quality results and have a strong eye for detail.

You are a strong communicator and have excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with contractors, stakeholders, and team members.

You are committed to building capability and improving performance, and you have a strong understanding of the importance of quality and compliance in the industry.

Requirements
  • Significant field experience in delivering pavement and surfacing works
  • Competent and demonstrated understanding in the application of ISO systems and the ability to audit against these standards
  • Ability to cross-examine contractors' systems to incentivise and improve performance
  • Civil Engineering Qualification – Diploma or equivalent

You must hold a current and valid New Zealand Driver's License (or equivalent). You will also demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori, as well as knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
