Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Team Manager to join our team at Chester Zoo.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Team Manager in ensuring the highest standards of animal care and visitor experience are maintained on the Rhino section.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage departmental assets, including routine maintenance and upkeep.
  • Oversee work programming and daily operations of Keepers, Lead Keepers, and voluntary work placements.
  • Conduct one-to-one meetings and performance reviews with staff, promoting training and professional development.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant taxa, best practices, and conservation initiatives.
  • Support Chester Zoo's conservation, research, education, and visitor experience objectives.
Requirements:
  • Experience in people management, including conducting performance reviews and motivating teams.
  • Good understanding of general animal management, including husbandry, training, biology, and key conservation issues.
  • A high level of attention to detail, particularly regarding animal care and enclosure maintenance.
  • Familiarity with health problems and veterinary issues affecting zoo animals.

An estimated salary for this role is £38,000 - £48,000 per annum.
