Research Manager Job Description

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is seeking a highly skilled Research Manager to support the commissioning and management of a high-profile portfolio of clinical and applied health research infrastructure funding schemes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement end-to-end processes to support funding calls, including developing guidance, FAQs, selection criteria, and overseeing the contracting process for funded applications.
  • Manage contractual requests and changes during the lifetime of the award, including parliamentary questions and FOI requests, and review and feedback on annual progress reports to provide assurance on research progress against goals.
  • Develop an annual programme of meetings to support the networking and collaboration of scheme Directors, including organising meeting agendas, developing content for papers, drafting reports, presentations, and briefing documents.
  • Provide flexible support to the team and community, including conducting additional administration tasks and providing a high level of support across the team at peak work times.
Requirements:
  • A Master's or PhD degree in biomedical or health sciences research.
  • Experience of working in a research funding environment.
  • Research management experience in the NHS or HEIs or clinical trial/study.
  • Current knowledge of the UK's health and care research and policy landscape.
  • Experience in research/grants management.
