Job Title: Adult Principal Practitioner Psychologist

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Adult Principal Practitioner Psychologist to join our established psychology team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and developing the delivery of integrated psychological care pathways in dental and orofacial services.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Clinical and Client Care:
    Provide highly specialist psychological assessments, clinical formulations, and interventions to dental patients with psychological needs.
  2. Support the development and strengthening of care pathways, particularly in the development of services at Queen Mary Hospital.
  3. Work collaboratively with other clinicians and senior colleagues to contribute to strategic decisions and respond to complex or urgent situations.
  4. Provide psychological support to clients who are emotionally distressed due to their medical condition or other traumatic events.
  5. Communicate complex and sensitive information with patients, carers, and colleagues in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  6. Assess and monitor risk and develop appropriate risk management plans.
  7. Involve patients in the development of clinical services and research where possible.
Responsibilities for Team or Service Clinical Functioning:
  1. Attend multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure effective functioning and review of complex aspects of patient care and service delivery.
  2. Contribute to the effective working of the dental psychology service and take a lead in ensuring a psychologically informed framework for the wider service.
  3. Support the development of dental staff wellbeing initiatives and work collaboratively with staff wellbeing colleagues to promote their services.
  4. Develop the team's delivery of accessible and acceptable services in diverse communities served by the dental hospital.
  5. Participate in clinical governance initiatives and act as clinical governance link worker if appropriate.
Policy and Service Development:
  1. Implement policies and procedures in own area of work.
  2. Identify areas for improvement and propose changes to practices or procedures that affect the dental psychology team.
  3. Initiate and implement service development projects as agreed with clinical/professional lead.
  4. Participate in the ongoing implementation of new initiatives across the dental psychology team and the adult and paediatric clinical health psychology speciality.
Care or Management of Resources:
  1. Take care of and use carefully the Trust's equipment and physical resources.
  2. Ensure sufficient resources by estimating future needs and requesting or ordering supplies as needed.
Management and Supervision:
  1. Provide professional and clinical supervision to more junior psychologists and other professionals as appropriate.
  2. Deputise for the Consultant Clinical Psychologist in dental and if needed in the wider KCH clinical health psychology network.
  3. Supervise trainee applied psychologists within own area of specialism.
  4. Contribute to the appraisal of more junior psychologists as appropriate.
  5. Contribute to the recruitment of more junior psychologists as appropriate.
Teaching and Training:
  1. Undertake occasional teaching and training of pre and post-qualification psychologists and specialised training in psychological approaches to care to other professions as appropriate.
  2. Contribute to the development of the knowledge and skills base of the major trauma psychology team and wider trust by maintaining an active awareness of current developments in psychology and major trauma and by implementing knowledge gained in practice.
