Job Title: Band 5 Nurse

Job Summary:

Haven House Children's Hospice is seeking a skilled and compassionate Band 5 Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our Integrated Care Team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to children and young people with palliative care needs in our hospice, home, or hospital settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized care to children and young people with palliative care needs, ensuring their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met.
  • Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement care plans that promote a person-centred approach.
  • Liaise with the lead for mental capacity assessments and ensure that these are completed as required.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of services, ensuring that children, young people, and families' views are represented.
  • Participate in audit, service user feedback collection, and research as required.
  • Report clinical and non-clinical incidents in accordance with policy.
  • Mentor pre-registration nursing students and provide feedback to students' assessors.
  • Contribute to overall staff and service development by updating the evidence base for the team on clinical practice.
  • Education and training of parents/carers to meet the healthcare needs of their child.
  • Education and training of junior staff and students to meet the healthcare needs of service users.

Requirements:

  • RN Child/Adult/LD qualification.
  • Experience of working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills to parents/care staff.
  • Ability to work alone in a variety of settings.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Literate and numerate in English.
  • IT/Computer literate: able to word process and use basic spreadsheets.
  • Flexible and adaptable at work in order to meet competing priorities.
  • Understanding of a range of paediatric conditions including life-limiting, life-threatening, and end-of-life care needs.
  • Understanding of infection control procedures.
  • Understanding of personal health and safety responsibilities.
  • Good understanding of the meaning of clinical supervision/mentoring.
  • An understanding of equality within the workforce and how it can impact on this post.
  • Able to work unsocial hours as required.

Desirable:

  • Experience of a broad range of paediatric nursing needs and complex needs care, technology-dependent child, childhood cancer.
  • Experience of caring for children/young people who require end-of-life support.
  • Technical paediatric nursing skills such as care of enteral feeding tubes, tracheostomies, emergency medication for seizures, etc.
  • IV competent.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills to parents/care staff.
  • Understanding of a range of paediatric conditions including life-limiting, life-threatening, and end-of-life care needs.
  • Access to vehicle and clean driving licence.
