Job Description

As a Senior Application Operations Engineer at the Department for Work and Pensions, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our applications. Your responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing technical expertise and support for a range of applications and technologies, including Linux, Windows servers, SQL and Non-SQL databases, and Cloud and On-Premise based servers.
  • Working closely with other teams, including Service Owners, DevOps and Site Reliability Engineers, Architects, Testers, Business Analysts, and Level 2 Service Owners, to ensure the ongoing reliability, performance, and support of our applications.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with the Application Operations Engineers in your team and with other multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Leading and championing continual service improvement across your team and other DWP areas, ensuring the success of both technical and process improvements.
  • Ensuring that the on-call rota for your services is up to date and complete.
  • Undertaking a leading role in the transition of new services into our department, ensuring that systems are onboarded smoothly with the appropriate knowledge transfer.
  • Undertaking a leading role in the onboarding of new starters into our department, ensuring that they are welcomed and supported throughout this process.
Requirements
  • Strong technical ability in a range of technologies and systems, resulting in improvements to services.
  • Proficiency in working within a team and with other stakeholders to ensure service outcomes are achieved.
  • Evidence of successfully implementing improvement initiatives from a technical and process angle.
