Job Summary

The Senior Support Specialist role in the Neurodevelopmental Team is a new position that offers the opportunity to support the team in conducting assessments for Autism and ADHD.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the neurodevelopmental assessment of children and young people whose behavior suggests the need for an assessment, enabling clinicians to gain a comprehensive understanding of the child's developmental history.
  • Reviewing developmental forms and beginning to write diagnostic reports with clinician support.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records for each child.
  • Attending and contributing to team meetings to support the development of the team.

Job Responsibilities

The Senior Support Specialist will play a pivotal role in the development of a more patient-focused approach, reviewing all information provided by families, including reports on their child's difficulties and strengths, teacher reports, and the child's own perception of their difficulties and strengths. Using this information, the successful candidate will start formulating reports with clinician support and identifying any additional assessments needed.

The role will involve regular supervision, both clinical and managerial, and the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, occupational health practitioners, nurses, and social workers.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge of child development and neurodevelopmental presentation in children.
  • Ability to identify relevant information with guidance and apply it to pre-assessment.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Good standard of written English, GCSE English or equivalent.
  • Training in Counselling/Psychology or a qualification related to Mental Health issues.
  • Training in child development with an understanding of neurodiversity.
