The Role

As an Assistant Chief Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and oversight to our Strategic Communications engineering teams. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing new and supporting in-service Radio and Satellite Communications systems for Defence customers in the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide governance and oversight of the technical work of the Strategic Communications engineering teams to ensure optimal compliance with customer requirements.
  • Ensure the application of independent assurance to technical output, including chairing design reviews and conducting independent reviews of deliverables.
  • Support business growth by contributing to bids and business development activities, representing Babcock in external meetings related to communication systems.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in communication systems and network design and support.
  • Manage technical risks and issues, ensuring that our strategic communications solutions are safe to build, commission, and operate.

Requirements

  • Significant experience and subject matter expertise in end-to-end strategic communication systems, including the development of new solutions using a formal systems engineering approach.
  • Experience of strategic military RF communication systems, tactical military communication systems, and/or military SATCOM systems is desirable.
  • Proven track record of overseeing the technical work of others, including reviewing designs and documentation, and authorising the release of deliverables.
  • Demonstrable experience of engineering delivery on large and/or complex engineering projects.
  • Experience of delivering service-based contracts to the Ministry of Defence.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify, prioritise, and resolve issues using data and good judgement.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts and technologies clearly and digestibly to non-specialists.

Qualifications

  • Degree-educated or equivalent professional engineering qualifications, with either Chartership status or working towards Chartership status.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national, able to achieve and maintain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance for this role.
