Job Title: Area Counsellor Specialist/Psychotherapist/Psychological Therapist

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Area Counsellor Specialist/Psychotherapist/Psychological Therapist to join our team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality counselling services to individuals, groups, and families, working collaboratively with other professionals to ensure a comprehensive and responsive service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist assessments and interventions for individuals, groups, and families, drawing on complex data from various sources.
  • Offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to colleagues and other non-professional carers.
  • Undertake risk assessment and management relating to psychological interventions, ensuring appropriate action in accordance with legislation, professional, and organisational requirements.
  • Record, monitor, and report on clinical work, communicating clinical information to various recipients in a skilled and sensitive manner.
  • Engage in regular clinical professional supervision from a service HCPC registered practitioner psychologist or alternative agreed qualified psychological professional.
Leadership and Supervision:
  • Provide clinical supervision, guidance, and professional oversight for volunteer counsellors, trainees, students, and other less experienced psychological professionals.
  • Ensure assessment, screening of service user suitability for counselling, and allocation is undertaken, including directly delivering this.
  • Record and oversee the recording of service user contact with the counselling service.
  • Facilitate psychological therapies service-related evaluation, policy, and service development, as well as wider research.
  • Act as an effective conduit for communication between senior managers, partners, key stakeholders, and the designated therapy team.
Person Specification:
  • Accredited postgraduate qualification as accredited by the BACP, UKPC, HCPC (Practitioner Psychologist), or the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
  • Accredited as a supervisor by the UKCP, BABCP, or have completed a BPS-approved supervision skills course or supervisor qualification from a substantial counselling modality supervision course.
Experience:
  • Experience in the provision of talking therapy assessments and treatment of people with a range of psychological problems and severity, including co-occurring substance use and mental health problems.
  • Experience of providing supervision, training, and/or consultation to other professional/non-professional groups.
  • Experience with routine outcome monitoring and audit.
  • A demonstrable understanding of Health and Social Care regulatory requirements, including the CQC, NICE, and any other relevant bodies.
