About the Role

The Scottish Government is seeking an exceptional individual to fill the position of His Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education in Scotland. This is a pivotal role that will play a crucial part in shaping the future of Scottish education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of education reform initiatives, working closely with the Scottish Government and other stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Scottish Ministers, and Scottish Government officials on education policy and practice.
  • Oversee the establishment of a new independent education inspectorate, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE), and ensure its effective operation.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive inspection framework, focusing on improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Work collaboratively with education professionals, schools, and local authorities to drive improvement and innovation in education.

Requirements

  • A senior education professional with a proven track record of leading and delivering improvements in excellence and equity.
  • Experience of operating successfully at board or senior level, using strong political acuity, in a complex organisation, delivering cultural and high-profile programmes of change.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide evidence-based advice and guidance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
