Job Summary

The Scottish Government seeks an exceptional individual to lead the Education Scotland Agency as its Chief Executive. This pivotal role requires a transformational leader who can drive reform, deliver improvement, and inspire excellence in Scottish education.

As a key member of the Scottish Government, you will be responsible for leading a team of circa 380 employees, providing strategic direction, and implementing reforms to strengthen education and skills in Scotland. You will work closely with senior leaders, Cabinet Secretaries, and Scottish Ministers to deliver on ministerial priorities and drive whole-system change.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Education Scotland Agency to deliver on reform commitments, drive cultural and high-profile programmes of change, and provide expert advice to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive programme of engagement with internal and external stakeholders to inform and ensure support for reform.
  • Provide transformational leadership to refocus the Agency on curriculum design, improvement, and innovation, ensuring that it is a high-performing, continuously improving public body.
  • Ensure the Agency engages with and plays a lead role in the Education and Skills Reform programmes, working with Scottish Government officials to review the Agency's organisational design.
  • Chair the Advisory Board and provide independent professional advice, information, and evidence to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Scottish Ministers, and Scottish Government officials on all aspects of education policy.
