We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Design Principal to lead our product design team and drive the creation of exceptional customer experiences for Bupa's customers in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and articulate the product strategy and vision for multiple squads, providing strategic direction and guidance on approach and timescales.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, proposition, technology, and delivery, to advocate for the principles, standards, and processes of product design and development.
  • Confidently mediate across business demands, customer needs, and technical feasibility to design the right thing and design the thing right.
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects aligned with business goals and UX metrics.
  • Set, track, and measure UX metrics for squads and regularly communicate the impact and value of design.
  • Manage and refine roadmaps and prioritize backlogs across squads with colleagues, prioritizing the most valuable features for customers and the business.
  • Design Leadership and People Management: mentor, coach, and inspire team members as a people manager, maintaining and improving the inherent pillars of our team's culture.
  • Drive operational enhancements within the design function, collaborating with design leadership to improve ways of working and ensure consistency across the wider design function.
  • Collaborate closely with product and technology leadership to shape and execute Bupa's overarching strategy and vision across relevant domains.
  • Advocate for the adoption of the organisation's Design System, 'Anatomy', and contribute to the community.

Requirements

  • A strong background in end-to-end product design, with a track-record of tackling complex problems and delivering simple solutions using human-centered design approaches.
  • Highly developed and confident stakeholder management skills, experienced in dealing with broad stakeholder groups and knowing when to bring the right people together to achieve common goals.
  • A strategic, thought leader across design process, able to influence and drive change ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Proven experience in managing, leading, and nurturing large product/UX design teams, with strong coaching, mentoring, and 'championing' skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to inspire, influence, and tell a compelling story.
  • Highly collaborative in approach, valuing others' input and expertise and seeking feedback.
  • A growth mindset.
