Transforming Patient Care in Revision Knee Surgery

Barts Health NHS trust has been recognized as a major complex revision centre for North East London, offering a unique opportunity for a skilled clinical nurse specialist to join the arthroplasty team.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing new patient pathways across North East London, improving the care of patients with problematic joint replacement. They will work closely with consultant surgeons to establish a new innovative programme of national clinical change, hosted by Barts Health on behalf of the British Association For Surgery of the Knee (BASK) in conjunction with NHS E+I and GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time).

The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage complex orthopaedic patients. They will be responsible for maintaining ongoing communication with clinicians, nursing colleagues, and patients, setting up patient support, creating new pathways, developing guidelines, and non-operative/counselling pathways.

The post holder will coordinate the team, run MDTs, complex case clinics, pre-operative assessment, inpatient care, and become the hub of the regional network. They will be expected to have counselling and leadership skills, a knowledge of complex arthroplasty, as well as wound management solutions, antibiotics, and a drive to improve the care for this group of patients.

Part of the national funding of this role is dependent on the establishment of non-surgical care pathways and the submission of six-monthly audits to show compliance with national standards, as well as data upload to the National Joint Registry and Bone and Joint Infection Registry.
