Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ophthalmology Consultant to join our team at King's College Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist Consultant leadership, expertise, and support to our glaucoma services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide Specialist Consultant Leadership: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist Consultant leadership, expertise, and support to our glaucoma services.
  • Develop and Provide Outpatient and Surgical Services: The candidate will be responsible for developing and providing outpatient and surgical services for glaucoma patients.
  • Commit to Community-Based Glaucoma Monitoring Service: The successful candidate will be required to commit to the new community-based glaucoma monitoring service.
  • Contribute to Strategic Development: The candidate will be responsible for contributing to the strategic development of the glaucoma service across all King's sites.
  • Work with Clinical Commissioning Groups: The successful candidate will be required to work with local clinical commissioning groups to devise appropriate patient care pathways.
Requirements
  • Full Registration with GMC: The successful candidate must be fully registered with the General Medical Council.
  • Name on GMC Ophthalmology Specialist Register: The candidate must have their name on the GMC Ophthalmology Specialist Register on the date of taking up the appointment.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Wide Experience in Ophthalmology: The successful candidate should have wide experience in all aspects of Ophthalmology.
  • Advanced Subspecialty Training in Glaucoma: The candidate should have advanced subspecialty training in Glaucoma.
Administration and IT Skills
  • Experience in Day-to-Day Organisation: The successful candidate should have experience in day-to-day organisation of Ophthalmology services.
  • Familiarity with Information Technology: The candidate should be familiar with information technology and general computer skills.
  • Familiarity with Current Structure of UK National Health Service: The successful candidate should be familiar with the current structure of the UK National Health Service.
Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Thorough Understanding of Principles of Medical Audit: The successful candidate should have a thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit.
Teaching and Training
  • Experience of Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Teaching: The successful candidate should have experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching.
