Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SHEQ Advisor to join our team at United Living Group. As a key member of our Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, clients, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of SHE Advisors to support projects in the delivery of our Safety, Health, and Environmental strategy, ensuring managers assume full responsibility for the discharge of their responsibilities.
  • Tender and Contract Management: Provide appropriate Safety, Health, and Environmental input into the tender and contract award process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Health and Safety Expertise: Act as a single point of contact for advice and expertise on Health & Safety matters to project teams, ensuring the effectiveness of Construction Phase Plans during the lifecycle of the project.
  • Environmental Guidance: Provide environmental & sustainability guidance to meet our targets, metrics, and net zero driver.
  • Accident and Incident Investigations: Manage accident / incident investigations to establish root causes and communicate learning points to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Process Improvement: Challenge existing working methods to incorporate Health, Safety, and Environmental good practice during both the design & construction phases without compromising business priorities.
  • Culture Development: Contribute to a safe & secure culture through behaviour-based coaching at all levels within the project, contributing towards Formal Process Safety Assessments where required.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with the wider construction industry to ensure that lessons are shared and implemented.
  • Relationship Management: Co-ordinate, develop & maintain positive relationships with local stakeholders, the HSE, Local Authorities, EA, and SEPA.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Have an in-depth knowledge & provide expert advice on the CDM regulation covering various roles such as Client, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor.
  • Training and Development: Provide support & guidance to ensure project representatives are aware of their SHE roles and responsibilities in line with our Clients QMS.
  • Documentation Review: Undertake reviews of United Living and contractor documentation, participate in site safety meetings, H&S Audits & Sensible Monitoring Inspections on gas projects.
  • Audit Capability: Provide independent H&S audit capability to the delivery teams for a portfolio of projects through pre-construction & construction phases.
  • CDM Risk Management: Ensure suitable controls and processes are in place for the development and ongoing management of the CDM Risk Register and monitoring of the suitability and effectiveness of the Contractor's temporary works inspections on gas projects.
  • Competence Review: Assist the project team representatives with the review of contractor's competence and identification of training needs.
  • Reporting and Data Analysis: Provide monthly H&S data & safety stats to Directors as needed.
  • Relationship Development: Develop internal relationships to resolve issues, develop internal learning, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Health and Safety Diploma (or equivalent) and Chartered member of IOSH.
  • Driving License: Current full UK driving license.

  • Experience: Experience of establishing, implementing, managing, and continually improving SHEQ management systems.
  • Coaching and Development: Can coach peers and junior members of the extended SHEQ team in their field of expertise.
  • IT Literacy: IT literate with a keen eye for data accuracy.
