About the Role

United Living Group is seeking a highly skilled SHEQ Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our delivery team, you will play a critical role in driving the implementation of our company strategy to ensure responsibility and accountability reside with line managers and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support projects in the delivery of our Health, Safety and Environmental strategy, ensuring managers assume full responsibility for their activities.
  • Provide expert advice on CDM regulation requirements, specifically for water projects, covering Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor roles.
  • Ensure suitable controls and processes are in place for the development and ongoing management of the CDM Risk Register and monitoring of temporary works inspections on water projects.
  • Provide Health, Safety, and Environmental input into the tender and contract award process.
  • Act as a single point of contact for advice and expertise on Health and Safety matters to project teams, ensuring the effectiveness of Construction Phase Plans.
  • Provide environmental and sustainability guidance to meet our targets, metrics, and net zero drivers.
  • Support and undertake accident/incident investigations to establish root causes and communicate learning points to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Challenge existing working methods to incorporate Health, Safety, and Environmental good practice during design and construction phases without compromising business priorities.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure culture through behavior-based coaching at all levels within the project, contributing to Formal Process Safety Assessments where required.
  • Liaise with the wider construction industry to ensure lessons are shared and implemented.
  • Coordinate, develop, and maintain positive relationships with local stakeholders, the HSE, Local Authorities, EA, and SEPA.
  • Provide support and guidance to ensure project representatives are aware of their SHE roles and responsibilities in line with National Grids/Cadent/SGN QMS.
  • Undertake reviews of United Living/contractor documentation, participate in site safety meetings, H&S Audits, and Sensible Monitoring Inspections on water projects.
  • Provide independent H&S audit capability to the delivery teams for a portfolio of projects through pre-construction and construction phases.
  • Assist project team representatives with the review of contractor's competence and identification of training needs.
  • Provide monthly H&S data and safety stats to line management as needed.

Requirements

  • NEBOSH Certificate and considerable relevant construction SHE and Water industry experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of Environmental management requirements.
  • Current full UK driving license.
  • EUSR Cross Country Pipelines/SHEA Water.

Desirable

  • Diploma (or equivalent) in Health and Safety and/or considerable relevant SHE and Water industry experience.
  • Membership of a safety or environmental professional body or engineering institute to incorporated or chartered level.
  • Formal auditor training ISO 9001/14001/18001 trained.
