NRL Ltd is seeking to recruit a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Advisor to support our infrastructure initiatives.


Role Overview:


The HSEQ Advisor will play a crucial role in enhancing the performance of our delivery teams by providing specialized coaching, guidance, and training. This position aims to inspire and motivate managers, staff, and contractors to ensure compliance with legislation while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The ultimate goal is to achieve and maintain exceptional health, safety, and environmental standards, contributing to sustainability and net-zero objectives.


The advisor will facilitate the implementation of the company's strategic vision, ensuring that accountability and responsibility are embraced by line managers and staff, with a strong focus on behavioral safety. This role will also serve as a key resource for safety and health expertise.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist projects in executing the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy, ensuring that managers take full ownership of their responsibilities.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of CDM regulations applicable to water projects, advising on roles such as Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor.
  • Ensure that effective controls and processes are established for the management of the CDM Risk Register and oversee the adequacy of temporary works inspections on water projects.
  • Provide essential Health, Safety, and Environmental insights during the tender and contract award phases.
  • Act as the primary contact for Health & Safety advice to project teams, ensuring the successful implementation of Construction Phase Plans throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Offer guidance on environmental and sustainability matters to help meet our targets and net-zero commitments.
  • Support and conduct accident and incident investigations to identify root causes and share lessons learned to prevent future occurrences.
  • Encourage the adoption of Health, Safety, and Environmental best practices during both design and construction phases, without compromising business objectives.
  • Promote a culture of safety through behavior-based coaching at all project levels and contribute to Formal Process Safety Assessments as necessary.
  • Engage with the broader construction community to share insights and implement lessons learned.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with local stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and authorities.
  • Ensure project representatives understand their roles and responsibilities regarding SHE in accordance with relevant quality management systems.
  • Review company and contractor documentation, participate in safety meetings, conduct H&S audits, and perform sensible monitoring inspections on water projects.
  • Provide independent H&S audit capabilities to delivery teams across a range of projects during preconstruction and construction phases.
  • Assist project representatives in evaluating contractor competence and identifying training needs.
  • Deliver monthly H&S data and safety statistics to management as required, fostering internal collaboration to resolve issues and identify opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

Interpersonal, Supervisory, or Management:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to coach and motivate individuals.
  • Effective communication and influencing skills across all organizational levels, including senior management.
  • Capability to recommend preventive measures, develop new initiatives, and ensure their successful implementation.
  • Experience in creating and delivering engaging training and briefing materials.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving business objectives despite challenges.

Technical or Specialist:

  • Solid understanding of CDM Regulations, particularly concerning the roles of Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor.
  • Experience in auditing and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Adept at identifying resistance patterns and employing effective problem-solving techniques.

Essential Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH Certificate and substantial relevant experience in construction SHE and the water industry.
  • Knowledge and experience in environmental management requirements.
  • Current full UK driving license.
  • EUSR Cross Country Pipelines / SHEA Water certification.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Diploma (or equivalent) in Health & Safety or extensive relevant experience in SHE and the water industry.
