About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic Assistant Director of Communications to lead and innovate the communication strategies for our client. As a key member of our team, you will be instrumental in reshaping public perception, managing media relations, and developing impactful internal and external communication strategies that align with the client's vision for "Building a Fairer Newham."

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Development and Implementation of Internal Communications Strategy: Enhance staff awareness and engagement through effective internal communications.
  • Manage Proactive and Reactive Media Relations: Build strong media contacts to showcase our client's initiatives and respond to media inquiries.
  • Oversee Content Production: Ensure alignment with Newham's brand across digital, print, events, and video content.
  • Develop Crisis Management Protocols: Support emergency communication services and develop effective crisis management strategies.
  • Drive Strategic Social Media Approach: Increase engagement with residents, businesses, and stakeholders through targeted social media campaigns.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Deliver integrated campaigns aligned with client objectives and support team members in their roles.
  • Ensure Innovative Storytelling: Develop compelling narratives across all communication channels to engage diverse audiences.

Requirements

  • Degree Level or Equivalent Experience: Communications or related field.
  • Extensive Experience: Managing communications within a complex, politically sensitive organization.
  • Proven Track Record: Media relations, social media management, and internal communications.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and communication budgets.
  • Experience in Crisis Management: Handling sensitive public relations issues and developing effective crisis management strategies.
  • Expertise in Content Strategies: Developing targeted content for diverse audiences.
