Job Title: Children's Specialist Nurse

At County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Children's Specialist Nurse to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional care and support to children and young people with bladder and bowel issues.

The estimated salary for this role is £40,000 - £60,000 per annum, depending on experience.

About the Role:

This exciting opportunity offers a unique chance to make a significant difference in the lives of children and families. As a Children's Specialist Nurse, you will be responsible for providing expert assessment, advice, care, and education to children and their families. Your primary focus will be on improving quality of life and outcomes for children with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).

You will work closely with the lead nurses and other specialist nurses to ensure the effective use of resources and clinics, identifying opportunities to continually improve the service. This role requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of children's continence issues, and the ability to travel independently to meet the extensive travel requirements of this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing specialist nursing care within the Children's Bladder and Bowel service, delivering excellent patient-centred care.
  • Developing treatment plans and care pathways with other related specialities, which may include allied health professionals, education, and the Local Authority.
  • Supporting the management of junior staff and participating in clinical supervision and formal appraisal.
  • Delivering expert clinical care with varying levels of supervision as required.
Person Specification:

We are looking for an experienced nurse who possesses the following qualities:

  • Ability to manage a caseload, including outpatient clinics
  • Experience delivering education sessions for a variety of audiences
  • Previous experience within a specialist nurse role or outpatient/community team

The ideal candidate should have recent experience in continence care and hold a Health-related/Nursing Diploma. Advanced/post-registration education and/or experience in continence issues are also desirable. Leadership skills, specialist knowledge of children's continence issues, and the ability to travel independently are essential.
