Diabetes Specialist Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Associate Paediatrics Diabetes Nurse Specialist to join our team at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care and support to patients with diabetes, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver an integrated package of care. This will involve providing inpatient diabetes support, staff training, and working closely with community healthcare professionals to deliver care between hospital and primary care.
The Associate Paediatrics Diabetes Nurse Specialist will also provide specialist diabetes management in the multidisciplinary foot clinic, antenatal, and young person/transition services, as well as supporting patients with digital technologies such as capillary glucose monitoring and insulin pumps.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain specialist knowledge and clinical expertise in the nursing management of people with diabetes mellitus.
- Support the principle of self-management for people with diabetes and sign-post people to information and support to encourage informed decision-making about living with diabetes and managing life events.
- Support and provide training to NCIC staff in relation to inpatient management of diabetes.
- Participate in the development or maintenance of local guidance for the care of people with diabetes in hospital.
- Review people with diabetes in an outpatient setting.
- Be a specialist resource for the care and support of patients with diabetes and their families and for the multi-disciplinary Community Teams.
- Maintain a high standard of nursing care at all times, and adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council 'Code of Professional Conduct'.
- Strictly adhere to the confidentiality code as laid down by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and policy directives.

Person Specification- Degree level education in Nursing.
- NMC registration.
- Post-Basic qualification in specialist area (Diabetes e.g. Warwick Course A205, CIDC, Bradford Diabetes course) or will work towards within the first year of appointment.
- Adult Education Teaching Certificate.
- To have or be willing to undertake a diabetes related qualification such as Warwick or Bradford.
- Significant general nursing experience within the NHS.
- To have detailed knowledge of all aspects of diabetes and associated risk factors.
- Confident, diplomatic, good organisational ability, pleasant disposition, able to work in isolation but part of a team, co-operative & flexible, able to deal with difficult/emotional situations.
- Willing to undertake training as required.
- Able to travel independently of public transport and be able to travel widely as and when required.
- General IT skills including experience of windows based software and MS Office.
- Up to date knowledge of the developments in diabetes care.
