IT Infrastructure Support Specialist

You will be a key member of the IT team at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. Our team provides the IT infrastructure required for our scientists to achieve their goals.

Main Duties:
  • To be responsible for unpacking, configuring, installing software and delivering new computers to our users.
  • To assist with installation of software patches and implementing our IT security policies.
  • To assist with keeping our databases of LMB computers up to date, including regular audits.
  • To assist with audio-visual support.
  • To assist with ordering and shipping of computer parts and accessories.
  • To assist with patching and activation of network points.
  • To assist the IT engineers with any other tasks as needed.

Working Relationships:

  • You will report to the Deputy IT Manager and will have no line management responsibilities.
  • You will be required to develop a working relationship and communicate with all IT users to ascertain their needs.

Person Specification:

  • Education: GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Previous work experience: Desirable experience of working in a busy environment.
  • Knowledge and experience: Essential experience using Mac or Windows computers, knowledge of Microsoft software products and software installations and patching.
  • Desirable experience of working with databases and data entry, audio-visual systems and software and knowledge of computer components and their uses.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work.

  • A willingness to learn and develop skills in areas useful to the LMB.
