Job Summary

The successful appointee will be practising autonomously as a Specialty Doctor within the Haematology department to provide patient-centred clinical care. This will encompass the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice throughout the specialty.

Main Duties
  • Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to support the management of patients with Haematology disorders and particularly Haemato-oncology care across UHB.
  • Use expertise and decision making skills to inform clinical reasoning to appropriately treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.
  • Support the HGS (Heartlands/Good Hope/Solihull) rota for consultative referrals and new acute presentations to Haematology, offering senior advice to trainees but also supported by Consultants on-call and the AOS service.
  • Participate in weekly outpatient clinics and offer support to day case units for patient reviews and prescribing chemotherapy.
  • Contribute to the integrated Haemato-oncology Clinical MDT, plus monthly quality meetings, weekly educational sessions and mortality and morbidity meetings.
  • Depending on experience of the appointee, there is opportunity to support laboratory haematology including blood film morphology.
  • Ensure that high standards of all documentation are maintained, with accurate, complete and up-to-date information regarding patient care are kept in accordance with Trust standards.
