Cyber Security Expert for Secure Telecommunications Networks

NPL is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join the team responsible for keeping our organisation secure. As a trusted and independent national capability, we interact at the intersection of standards bodies, academia, Ofcom, Communications Service Providers and telecommunication equipment vendors.
About the RoleThis role involves operational support, enabling project delivery and SOC activities, as well as ensuring system vulnerabilities are addressed through effective patch and lifecycle management across a diverse portfolio of systems within a corporate and scientific environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Security Alert Review and Response: Reviewing and acting upon security alerts generated by tooling.
- Threat Monitoring: Monitor the environment for potential threats, vulnerabilities and indicators of compromise.
- Escalation Point: Act as an escalation point for other members of the security team, providing assistance and mentoring where necessary.
- SOC Procedure Development: Contributing to the development of SOC procedures and documentation.
- Remediation Support: Assist with remediation activities.
- Threat Intelligence: Understanding Threat Intelligence and its use.
- Automation Workflow Development: Produce new workflows for automation tools.
This is a full-time role based in Birmingham with an option of hybrid working. We strive to offer a great work-life balance and will try to accommodate flexible options where possible.
The estimated salary for this position is £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.
