The UK Telecoms Lab (UKTL) is a cutting-edge national capability that plays a vital role in securing the country's telecommunications networks. As part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, we are committed to accelerating the roll-out of 5G and growing the UK's telecoms sector by bringing in new entrants to diversify the supply chain market.

Successful candidates will have a unique opportunity to work on or support the latest ground-breaking cyber security and networking technologies on a national and international scale. This will give them first-hand exposure to the latest technologies through our research and development activities, designed to keep the UK's telecommunications networks safe and secure.

We interact at the intersection of standards bodies, such as 3GPP, the National Cyber Security Centre, academia, Ofcom, Communications Service Providers, and telecommunication equipment vendors. Our team is trusted and independent, making us an invaluable resource for senior government department officials, communications industry leaders, and academic professionals.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Cyber Security and Networking Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will have expertise in cyber security and networking technologies, including experience of working with national and international stakeholders. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that is driving innovation in the telecoms sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with our team to develop and implement effective cyber security solutions to protect our telecommunications networks
  • Contribute to the development of our research and development activities, focusing on ground-breaking cyber security and networking technologies
  • Engage with national and international stakeholders, including standards bodies, academia, and industry partners
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior government department officials, communications industry leaders, and academic professionals

What You'll Need:

  • Strong background in cyber security and networking technologies

  • Flexibility to commute to our offices in Birmingham and potentially work from home

Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 per annum (dependent on experience), plus benefits package
