The Role – Project Manager

The Business Development team, part of our Social Value and Procurement Directorate, aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of Cyd Innovation by securing new income streams, supporting service development, and delivering consultancy services aligned with our objective of making a positive impact.

This role will lead income generation efforts, securing new clients and ongoing funding for the Social Value and Procurement team and other service areas, including retrofit management and consultancy, to drive business growth and expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • To spearhead a high-performing business development function, embedding the organization's culture, vision, and values into all income generation activities.
  • Lead collaborations with colleagues and Senior Leadership Teams to respond to opportunities for income generation through public sector tendering and grant applications, assessing their operational viability and ensuring deliverability.
  • To develop and implement Cyd Innovation's funding strategy, securing sufficient income to underpin delivery of the organization's Innovation Strategy.
  • Manage ongoing innovation projects within the Social Value and Procurement team, securing public and private sector funding and executing project delivery within specified timescales.
  • Establish effective governance for all aspects of the business development lifecycle, setting up efficient systems and processes aligned to each stage.
  • Develop and test new product and service innovations for the Social Value and Procurement Team and wider service areas where needed.
  • Maintain a consultancy arm offering diverse services at competitive rates, including account management for existing contracts.
  • Oversee the marketing and communications strategy to establish the brand and generate new income.
  • An experienced income generation professional with a proven track record of success in a high-pressure business development environment.
  • Excellent track record in securing significant income from various sources, exceeding financial targets.
  • Experience in managing and writing successful public sector tenders, proposals, and funding applications.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • A deep understanding of the Welsh social, economic, and environmental context and its implications for developing and growing businesses.
  • Strong commercial acumen to identify opportunities for innovation and new business across multiple strategic areas.
  • Proven expertise across the business development lifecycle, from market research to pipeline management, proposal response, and contract negotiation.
  • Skilled in leveraging marketing and communication tactics to establish and maintain a strong brand presence, cultivate reputation, and capitalize on opportunities for income generation.
  • Passionate about making a positive difference in people's lives and local communities we serve.
  • Experience with CRM systems to manage the business development lifecycle and client relationships.
  • Familiarity with UK contract law and public sector procurement requirements.
  • A comprehensive understanding of relevant public sector procurement and social value regulations and best practices.
