About the Role

The SEMH Teaching Assistant role in Abingdon offers a unique opportunity for aspiring counsellors or psychologists to gain hands-on experience working with children and young people with special educational needs.

You will work closely with teaching staff to provide emotional support and guidance to students, helping them to overcome learning difficulties and mental health challenges. This role is ideal for those who are passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students aged 4-11 years old
  • Work closely with teaching staff to identify areas of concern and develop strategies to address them
  • Contribute to the development of a child-related experience portfolio
  • Support students with personal care where necessary

Requirements:

  • Caring and patient individual with energy, drive, and enthusiasm
  • Ability to work as part of a team alongside teaching and support staff
  • Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification or has proven 3 years of experience in an EYFS or KS1/KS2 setting
  • Passion to support children and young people with special educational needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to get one
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification at Level 2 or above
  • Live locally to Abingdon

Salary: £417.50 - £450 per week (full-time, 5-day working week)
