Job Overview

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Geriatric Medicine Consultant to join our team of forward-thinking Ageing & Complex Medicine Consultants. As a key member of our Elderly Care service, you will play a vital role in delivering and developing our modern and comprehensive service.

The successful candidate will have recent comprehensive experience in Geriatric Medicine and be committed to training and teaching junior medical staff and other health professionals. You will be expected to work in a flexible manner and have a strong commitment to the development of Acute Medical services within the trust.

Main Duties of the Job

The full-time post offers a 10 PA job plan, with the potential to negotiate additional PA's on an individual basis for the successful candidate. You will be responsible for contributing expertise in Acute Comprehensive Geriatric Medicine and sub-specialties, including Stroke Medicine, Ortho Geriatrics, and Frailty Services.

The Elderly Care team provides service in the community, with regular MDT meetings, community clinics/visits, and Care home visits. You will be expected to work as part of a team and have a strong ability to work in a flexible manner.

Person Specification

Skills

  • Managerial structure within the NHS
  • Experience of Audit and its role in Clinical Governance
  • Commitment to training and teaching junior medical staff and other health professionals
  • Ability to work in a flexible manner

Experience/Training

  • CCT - Dual accreditation in GIM and Geriatric Medicine
  • Recent comprehensive experience in Geriatric Medicine

Professional Qualifications

  • Entry on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT
  • MRCP (or equivalent)
  • Full GMC with licence to practice
  • MB ChB or equivalent

Knowledge

  • Must show commitment to Development of Acute Medical services within the trust
  • Must show evidence of being proactive and Self-motivated
  • Must show ability to work as part of a Team
