Job Summary
Norfolk State University seeks an experienced academic leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Computer Science. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of scholarly achievement, administrative experience, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Department of Computer Science in curriculum development, program review, and assessment.
- Oversee faculty and staff workload, including academic advising, teaching schedules, and committee assignments.
- Manage departmental budgets and resources in accordance with the University's Strategic Plan.
- Evaluate academic and professional faculty and departmental staff.
- Collaborate with departmental committees and other stakeholders to promote departmental goals and objectives.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote diversity and inclusion in the department.
- Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in academic leadership.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Computer Science or a related field.
- Record of scholarly achievement in teaching, research, and service that merits tenure at the level of associate or full professor in Computer Science.
- Demonstrated experience in academic program leadership showing increasing levels of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience in higher education.
- Record of scholarly achievements and teaching effectiveness.
- Substantial experience obtaining grants and contracts.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication (oral, written, and presentation) skills.
