Eligibility Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Benefits Supervisor to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Benefits Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the eligibility determination process for government assistance programs, including SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF Appeals and Fraud.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise specialists who determine eligibility for government assistance programs
- Train, lead, and develop staff to ensure effective case management services
- Monitor case management plans and provide quality assurance of case management services
- Develop written guidelines for the delivery of case management services
- Assign caseloads to staff and coordinate and monitor their activities
- Hold individual and group conferences to review cases and problems
- Review case records and evaluate the performance of staff members
- Recommend hiring, disciplinary actions, transfer, promotion, and termination of personnel
- Represent eligibility staff needs to senior management
- Prepare and implement internal operating policies and procedures
- Interpret regulations, policies, and other program information changes to staff
- Train new employees in areas such as agency policy, department procedures, and agency or government regulations
- Determine staffing needs and make recommendations to management
- Maintain records and prepare regular and special reports
- Participate in developing and implementing agency administrative policy
- Make decisions on controversial cases or present them for higher-level action
- Authorize emergency assistance for applicants/recipients
- Serve in a liaison capacity to other agencies and groups
- Monitor program expenditures
- Considerable knowledge of current social, economic, and health issues and trends
- Principles and practices of effective supervision
- Public assistance programs, especially SNAP and Medicaid, policies and regulations
- The literature in the field of eligibility determination
- Casework supervision principles and practices
- Effective interviewing techniques
- Working knowledge of computer systems and standard office software
- Direct experience as a Benefit Program Supervisor, Benefit Program Trainer, or senior-level experience in a social services environment
- Bachelor's degree in the human services field and human services program experience in a lead or supervisory capacity
- Extensive experience working with Public Assistance Programs and bilingual in English/Spanish
