Maths Tutor Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Maths Tutor to join our team at an Outstanding college. As a Maths Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting learner progression and promoting a love of mathematics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that cater to the needs and interests of learners
  • Promote a safe and supportive learning environment, adhering to safeguarding policies
  • Record attendance and academic notes on our MIS system
  • Track learner progression on allocated Google Sheets
  • Develop innovative opportunities for interdepartmental and intradepartmental project collaborations
  • Use a range of assessment methods and provide constructive feedback to inspire learners
  • Complete learner one-to-one tutorials and individual learning plans on a bi-termly basis
  • Facilitate enrichment trips and guest speaker events throughout the year
  • Work towards a stable learner retention and qualification achievement rate
  • Participate in in-house training to stay up-to-date with awarding body expectations
  • Support learners in preparing for their assessed end-of-year project
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Proven teaching and communication skills, with the ability to make complex concepts engaging and accessible
  • Solution-focused and able to respond to data trends
  • Assertive and confident in learning environment management
  • Ambitious and committed to meeting targets and setting standards of behaviour and work
  • Empathy towards challenges faced by learners from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in teaching Functional Skills Maths E3-L2, GCSE Mathematics, and Core Principles Mathematics (Level 3)
  • Maths and English GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent (Level 2)
  • Degree or relevant qualification in the subject area
  • L5 teaching qualification preferred, with relevant experience advantageous
