PhD Researcher in Ocean Plastics
**Job Title:** PhD Researcher in Ocean Plastics
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to investigate the impact of ocean plastics on marine life, the environment, and human health. The successful candidate will have a strong background in fluid mechanics and experience in experimental research projects.
**About the Project:
- This project aims to understand how particles settle in a stratified ocean, which is essential for various geophysical flows, including cloud formation and ash-settling from volcanic eruptions.
The research will be conducted using laboratory experiments and advanced imaging techniques, such as PIV and PTV, shadowgraph imaging, and dye attenuation. The results will contribute significantly to our understanding of particle-driven convection and its implications for climate models.
**What We Offer:
- A fully funded EPSRC DLA studentship (fees and maintenance) for Home fees eligible students.
- EU and international students may be considered for a small number of awards at the Home fees rate.
**Requirements:
- A good 2.1 degree in an Engineering or related subject.
- A strong theoretical background in fluid mechanics and experience in practical/experimental research projects.
- Good programming abilities (e.g., Matlab, Python).
**How to Apply:
Please submit your application through the University of Cambridge Applicant Portal, with Megan Davies Wykes identified as the potential supervisor. The funding is conditional on submitting this application before the specified deadline.
**Salary:** £20,000 - £25,000 per annum (dependent on location and qualifications)
